Beginning Your Musical Journey

5th Grade Band Program

The 5th Grade Band program at Glenwood Intermediate School provides Ball Chatham students with their first opportunity to explore instrumental music. Our program is designed to introduce students to the fundamentals of their chosen instrument and develop essential musical skills.

Students receive:

  • Weekly pull-out group lessons to learn proper instrument care and playing essentials
  • Daily full band rehearsals during genius hour
  • Introduction to music fundamentals including pitch identification, balance, and blend
  • Focus on beginner-level band literature

Our goal is to create a solid foundation in music education that will prepare students for continued growth in the 6th Grade Intermediate Band program.

Learning Focus

In 5th Grade Band, students focus on:

  • Proper instrument care and maintenance
  • Essential playing techniques (embouchure, hand position, posture, breath support)
  • Basic music reading skills
  • Ensemble playing and balance
  • Beginner-level band literature

These foundational skills prepare students for a successful transition to the 6th Grade Intermediate Band program.
